Any classes that are labeled tumbling will not perform in our spring recital. These classes will have a chance to show off what they have learned with an "in class" performance at the end of the 12 week session. The first 12 week session will begin in September and the second in January.
Classes that are labeled recital will perfrom in our spring recital, have a $55 costume fee for each class (due in December), and will be expected to adhere to our dress code and class guidelines. We do not have an extremely long list of expectations, therefore the ones we have will be strictly enforced. If students are coming to class unprepared consistently, they will be asked to sit and watch instead of participate. Students will not be permitted to leave because attendance is extremely important. Our goal with this is not to upset anyone, but to create a fair and productive environment for those students who have good attendance, work hard in class, practice at home, and come to class mentally and physically prepared (clothes and hair). Here is a list of our expectations for our recital class students:
Dress ready to dance. This means shirts that will not fly up if your body is in an inverted position and pants that will not fall down when stretching. Absolutely no jeans or skirts are permitted. Leotards are wonderful, even if just worn under a shirt. Stretch pants or tights are perfect for legwear. The proper dance shoes must be worn at every class.
Hair pulled back or up. Hair hanging down in your face is a huge distraction and hindrance to the student and teacher. There are moves that cannot be executed if hair is not pulled back.
Good attendance and punctuality. We as teachers work very hard on class preparation and routines. Poor attendance will ruin a routine. At the same time, tardiness is a huge distration to the other kids in class and the teacher. If we have already stretched or warmed up and then a student walks in, we have to go through the warm up again (waisted class time) or have that student warm up on their own which means they are now missing class time and may not be stretching properly or the way the teacher would like.
Home practice. Your child's teacher will try very hard to give you the tools you need to practice at home. One hour a week in class will not be enough to memorize a routine. Even if it's five minutes a day, home practice is very important.
